Driving Through Cotati? Better Beware!
THE PRESS DEMOCRAT | February 10, 2016, 3:23PM
Law enforcement officers Wednesday morning blanketed Cotati, issuing 116 traffic citations for a host of driving violations including cellphone use, unbuckled seat belts and speeding, according to Cotati police.
The effort involved five local agencies and included 21 officers on motorcycles and two in patrol cars, Lt. Bill French said. The officers worked throughout the town from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In addition to the dozens of citation issues, almost 40 drivers were given warnings and two vehicles were impounded. The most serious case of the morning involved a person arrested who was found to be wanted on a no-bail warrant involving a drunken-driving case.
French said the day’s citation haul far exceeded a typical day in Cotati, when a traffic officer might write a handful in the same time period.
The effort was part of an ongoing operation involving Sonoma County law enforcement working together to focus on traffic safety, French said.
